Israel’s Battle with Gog and Magog

  • Ezekiel  38, 39
  • Read an article that describes the recently successful work of turning nuclear weapons material into fuel HERE This is discussed in Ezekiel 39:9,10
These are the nations that side with a leader named Gog who comes from Magog (the area of Russia)
  • Persia, which is modern day Iran.
  • Cush is Ethiopia.
  • Put refers to this nation as Libya. In Ezekiel's day it was a larger Libya of today. It incorporates the countries of Libya, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
  • Gomer is Turkey. Gomer was the oldest son of Japheth. He originated in the region of modern Turkey and eventually spread out to many countries.
  • Togarmah was a place to the North of Israel which now consists of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. [The former Soviet republics]

These are the nations that challenge Gog's motives for attacking Israel (Ez. 28:13):

  • Sheba or modern Yeman
  • Dedan which was southern Edom or Saudia Arabia
  • Tarshish which refers to Spain and the western extent of the Mediterranean
  • "All her (Tarshish's) villages" (or, strong lions) refers to the settlements around the weas that came from the western extents of the Mediterranean like Western Europe and the United States

These are nations that are not mentioned in the prophecy:

  • Egypt - they learned their lesson after the war of 1967 and were appeases after the war of 1973
  • Iraq - will become a democracy and will find financial prosperity. They will rebuild Babylon that will become Babylon the Great in Revelation
  • Afghanistan - Neutralized by the United States
  • Syria - Maybe neutralized by Israel in the current war of 2006
